The Samsung Galaxy S5 was recently officially unveiled and will release in regions worldwide from next month. However, there were plenty of fans of the mini version of the Galaxy S4 that released last year and some may be wondering if there will be a Galaxy S5 mini. It has long been rumoured that there will indeed be an S5 mini and now it appears it could well have model number SM-G870.
Last year’s Galaxy S4 mini arrived on the scene around 3 months after the initial release of its larger S4 sibling. As you would expect it has a smaller form factor and it also had some lesser specs. Back in January this year there were already reports that a Galaxy S5 mini was also in the works, and now a device shown on an Indian import site fits the bill as being the smaller handset.
While no information about the device is shown, it’s thought that the SM-G870 could well be the S5 mini. An indicator of this is that the price difference between the device on the import listing and that of the Galaxy S5 is thought to be around the same as the price ratio that occurred between last year’s handsets.
There’s also speculation that the S5 mini will be running Android 4.4 KitKat and will have a Super AMOLED display, though of course nothing is confirmed yet. It’s likely that an S5 mini will be introduced around June so let us know if you have an interest in this smartphone?
