We know that many readers are waiting for the latest Android 4.4 KitKat update to hit their devices, and recently we heard that testing was scheduled for the Sony Xperia Z and so 4.4 could be imminent. However, following this there were rumors that the later Xperia Z1 was unlikely to see Android 4.4 before April. This meant that being an older phone the Xperia Z would therefore probably have to wait until after that.
Therefore we were pleased to hear that a new firmware version was certified by Sony for the Xperia Z yesterday. This has build number 14.1.B.0.101 and the move from 10.4 to 14.1 looked promising as being Android 4.4.2. On further inspection though, it’s thought that this could be a PTCRB transposition error as explained by Xperia Blog, as the build number is very close to a recently certified version with a digit missed out.
It’s worth pointing out that this sort of error on the part of the PTCRB would be very unusual, so for now we’ll keep an open mind. We’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more about Android 4.4 KitKat for the Sony Xperia Z. Are you keenly waiting for this update?
