Windows Phone 8.1 prospect of USB OTG functionality
There have been more and more leaks about the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 upgrade over recent weeks, and just recently we shared a video purporting to show the WP 8.1 camera app. Now it looks like there’s a real prospect of USB OTG (on-the-go) functionality with Windows Phone 8.1.
If this turns out to be accurate it will be a real boon to some users and would help to boost the profile of Windows Phone devices. The news stems from Nawzil Najeeb, a former Microsoft employee, who says that when plugging in a USB thumb drive with a USB OTG cable to his Windows Phone handset running 8.1, it recognized a USB connection.
To be precise the message read, “USB storage detected. Tap to view files.” While this is not confirmation that this will appear in WP 8.1, it does look quite promising and could also lead to support for various accessories as well as external storage devices. Are you now hoping that USB OTG support arrives with the Windows Phone 8.1 update?
