Windows Phone 8.1 was recently officially introduced and we’ve already shown a couple of specific feature videos. Now the new operating system has made its way into the hands of developers, and the first reviews are coming in. Today we have details of some of the best Windows Phone 8.1 update reviews, which will give you a good idea of what you can expect when this update reaches the public.
The first is a YouTube video that you can view below this article. It comes from Pocketnow and gives an excellent look at what the upgraded OS offers. It details various aspects of the major changes including the interface, Action Center (notifications), Cortana, camera app, and general improvements. This is a nice overview and by the end of the video you’ll get a sense of just how significant the WP 8.1 update is.
For a written review The Verge gives a comprehensive overhaul of Windows Phone 8.1. This covers many factors such as Cortana, start screen and design, and Action Center, for an alternative take on the Pocketnow review. At the end of the review WP 8.1 earns a score of 8/10 and there’s a list of the pros and cons about the upgraded operating system.
Engadget has also come up with a review which covers many of the same aspects and also goes into detail about hardware support, the Word Flow keyboard, and other key improvements. Again at the conclusion of the review pros and cons are given, and in the overall verdict the reviewer states, “The 8.1 update marks the first time that the platform actually feels… complete.”
The final review we want to recommend comes from Ars Technica, and this one is for those of you who want a really in-depth assessment of the update. It’s a hugely comprehensive review covering the many new features. In fact the reviewer goes so far as to say it really should be Windows Phone 9, referring to the platform as “magnificent.”
