Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 KitKat update looking unlikely

#

There have been a lot of angry owners of a certain Samsung smartphone over the last few months, and this may increase in the future as a Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android 4.4 KitKat update is looking more unlikely by the day.

We recently had a list of different versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3 that should receive the Android KitKat update in the coming months, which didn’t include the international version of the handset despite recent claims that supposedly came from company representatives in Korea.

Now the editor-in-chief of SamMobile, Faryaab Sheikh, has responded to questions on his Twitter account about the update. He claims that there are currently no test builds for the new firmware on the handset, which would mean the late April or early May timeframe that was given for the updates arrival are wide of the mark.

He goes onto state that there won’t be any Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and while this is not coming from Samsung officially the source is pretty reliable when it comes to all things Samsung.

If Samsung doesn’t provide KitKat for the Galaxy S3 the least the company could do is quickly provide a fix for all the problems that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is causing the handset.

Does this news make you angry?

Why do Mobile phone makers keep shafting UK customers. First HTC not enough memory for updates then Motorola not updating UK tablets and now Samsung making phones for the UK market with less memory so they can’t be upgraded.

I will be very disappointed if Samsung doesn’t provide 4.4 for this phone. These are my main reasons. Firstly, 4.4 was released long before end of software support for this model. Secondly, there is no real technical reason why the International S3 i9300 can’t run 4.4 when the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Ace Style which has poorer RAM and CPU specifications (1.2 Dual Core CPU and 512MB RAM) will ship with Android 4.4. Lastly, there are already many custom ROMs based on 4.4 that reportedly run fine on this phone.

If they don’t update it to 4.4, the i9300 model, which was my first Samsung phone, will also be my last Samsung phone and I will never recommend buying a Samsung phone to anyone ever again.
