There is a huge variety of smartphones available right now and two popular affordable devices for the Indian market are the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 and the Sony Xperia E1 Dual. The Samsung phone released at the end of last year while the dual SIM version of the Xperia E1 is a more recent release. Today we’re looking at the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 vs. Sony Xperia E1 Dual in a showdown for India.
We’ll highlight the key specs for each of these handsets and if you’re not in India you can still use this for a straightforward specs comparison. The reason we’ve compared the two specifically for India is that both are popular dual SIM (GSM + GSM) smartphones there that also have similar pricing.
Processors
The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 has a 1.2GHz BCM dual-core processor with Broadcom VideoCore IV graphics. The Xperia E1 Dual has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 dual-core CPU and Adreno 302 GPU.
Display
Both phones have a 4-inch display with resolution of 800 x 480 and 233 ppi.
RAM and Storage
The Galaxy S Duos 2 has 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD to 64GB. The Xperia E1 Dual has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable to 32GB.
Camera set-up
The Galaxy S Duos 2 has a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video capture, and also a VGA front-facing camera. The Xperia E1 Dual has a 3.15-megapixel rear camera with WVGA video capture, but doesn’t have a secondary camera.
Battery
The Samsung phone has a 1500 mAh battery while the Sony Xperia phone has a 1750 mAh battery.
Connectivity
Both devices have 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS, EDGE and microUSB 2.0.
Operating System
The Galaxy S Duos 2 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean while the Xperia E1 Dual runs the later Android 4.3.
Dimensions and Weight
The Galaxy S Duos 2 measures 121.5mm x 63.1mm x 10.6mm and weighs 118g. On the other hand the Xperia E1 Dual measures 118mm x 62.4mm x 12mm and weighs 122g.
Price
Both phones have lowered in price since their original releases. Depending on retailer the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 can be found for around Rs. 8,400 while the Xperia E1 Dual is priced at around Rs. 8,100.
We haven’t taken into account all of the many features of each phone or the designs, and obviously this will play a part in any decision being made between these two smartphones. However, when looking at the specs there are a lot of similarities although there are also some swings and roundabouts. For example the Galaxy S Duos 2 has more RAM and a better camera arrangement while the Sony Xperia E1 Dual has a larger battery and runs a later version of Android.
