The smartphone market has an abundance of choice at the moment and two of the most recent Android phablet introductions are the HTC Desire 816 and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra. The Xperia T2 Ultra released back in March while the HTC Desire 816 was more recently launched and has a similar price. Today we’re looking at the HTC Desire 816 vs. Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual SIMs for India.
Both of these phones are available in other regions and both are available as dual SIM (GSM + GSM) handsets. They are also very close in pricing for India so may be on plenty of buyer’s shortlists. We’ve written many articles on the Desire 816 and the Xperia T2 Ultra that you can check out at the links, and now we’ll look at the key specs for each so that you can easily compare what they have to offer.
Processors
The HTC Desire 816 has a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual has a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 GPU.
Display
The Desire 816 has a 5.5-inch Super LCD2 display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 267 ppi. The Xperia T2 Ultra has a 6-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 245 ppi.
RAM and Storage
There’s 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that’s expandable to 128GB via microSD for the Desire 816. On the other hand the Xperia T2 Ultra has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable to 32GB.
Camera set-up
The Desire 816 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video capture and also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Xperia T2 Ultra has a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video recording capability, with a 1.1-megapixel front-facing unit.
Battery
The Desire 816 has a 2600 mAh battery while the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra has a 3000 mAh battery. Both are non-removable.
Connectivity
Both support 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS, EDGE, and microUSB 2.0.
Operating System
The Desire 816 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC’s Sense 5.5 UI and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2.
Dimensions and Weight
The Desire 816 measures 156.6mm x 78.7mm x 8mm and weighs 165g. The Xperia T2 Ultra Dual measures 165.2mm x 83.8mm x 7.7mm and weighs 171.8g.
Price
At the India launch of the HTC Desire 816 it was given a price of Rs. 23,990. The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual was priced at launch at Rs. 25,990, but can be found cheaper than that depending on retailer.
We haven’t taken into account all of the many features of these handsets or their designs, but on specs alone there’s not too much between them. However, some of the differences are that the Desire 816 has a faster CPU, more RAM, and an improved camera arrangement. On the other hand the Xperia T2 Ultra Dual has a larger battery capacity and larger display.
