We recently gave readers news about a new Micromax smartphone dubbed the Canvas L. This is an Android handset in a similar price bracket to the very popular Motorola Moto G dual SIM, so readers may be trying to choose between them. With that in mind we thought we’d offer a Moto G vs. Micromax Canvas L A108 India face-off.
The Canvas L has just arrived for sale while the Moto G Dual SIM released late last year. We are not going to take all of the features or designs into account, as that is very much a case of personal preference. However we’ll take a look at some of the main specs and more of both phones so that you can see how they compare in this respect.
Processors
The Moto G handset has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with Adreno 305 graphics. The Micromax A108 Canvas L is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582M quad-core processor with Mali-400MP2 GPU.
Display
The Moto G has a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 326 ppi. The Canvas L has a 5.5-inch display with 960 x 540 resolution and 200 ppi.
RAM and Storage
There’s 1GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB of internal storage (non-expandable) for the Moto G. The Canvas L has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, this time expandable to 32GB via microSD.
Camera set-up
The Moto G has a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p video capture, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing unit. The Canvas L steps up to an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p video recording capability, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper.
Battery
The Moto G has a non-removable 2070 mAh battery while the Canvas L has a removable 2350 mAh battery.
Connectivity
Both phones support 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS, EDGE and microUSB 2.0.
Operating System
Both phones run Android 4.4.2 KitKat although the Moto G is now upgradable to the later Android 4.4.4.
Price
Prices vary by retailer but the 8GB version of the Moto G can now be found for around Rs. 10,499 while the 16GB is around Rs. 11,999. The Canvas L A108 went on sale at Rs. 10,499.
Both phones are almost equally equipped as far as processing power is concerned, but the Moto G has a higher resolution display, a larger storage option (although more expensive), and runs a later version of Android. However the new Canvas L has a larger display, expandable storage, a better camera set-up, and a higher capacity battery that is also removable.
The most important factors for you in smartphone will come into play when making any decision between these two. You might prefer the Motorola brand and the superior display resolution of the Moto G, but if you enjoy smartphone photography and a bigger display then the Canvas L is more likely to be your choice.
If you’ve been considering these smartphones have you now made up your mind? Will it be the Moto G or the Micromax Canvas L that gets your vote? Let us have your comments on this.
