The Amazon Fire Phone was released back in July in the United States, and it’s not really been a hot seller for the company thus far. They hope to change that by getting the device into the hands of as many people as possible, and we’ve just learned the Amazon Fire Phone UK and Germany release date.
Consumers wanting to get their hands on the Amazon Fire Phone will be thrilled to know that pre-orders have already begun, and you’ll be able to snag the handset on September 30th in the UK and Germany. Just like in the states, it appears to be a carrier exclusive, so it appears Amazon hasn’t learned their lesson just yet.
The Amazon Fire Phone will be carried exclusively by O2 in the UK, and it’ll set you back £0 on selected monthly tariffs and £33/month. The German Amazon Fire phone will arrive courtesy of Deutsche Telekom, and the equipment will cost €1 a month with a €44.95 starting price on tariffs.
As for the Fire Phone itself, the specs included a 4.7-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 800 SoC. It runs a forked version of Android with all of Amazon’s bells & whistles which include their Appstore, but not Google Play. The real draw for the Fire Phone is it’s 3D display effect which is achieved through four front cameras, and Firefly which uses the rear camera to recognize almost anything in its viewfinder.
If you’re interested in picking up the Amazon Fire Phone in the UK or Germany, pre-orders have already begun, and you won’t have to wait long to have the new gadget at your doorstep. It’s a gimmicky device, but it’s powerful and you’ll get the added benefit of a full year of Amazon Prime if you pick one up before December 31st.
