Apple iPad Air 2 apparently using a triple-core chip

Those of you who follow the industry — Apple, to be more specific — already know this, but, for those of you who don’t, you should know that Apple offers very little to no information when it comes to the specific of the internals for its products. Let it be the iPhone or the iPad, Apple does not emphasize on technical specifications like the amount of RAM memory, the cores of its chips, or even the frequency these chips run at. By contrast, Android device makers, let it be a smartphone, tablet, or even a smartwatch, are quick to brag about such details, finding great pride in clock speeds, gigabytes of RAM, or core numbers.

Details about components inside Apple products are either educated guesses, benchmark results, or based on identifying components after teardowns. The iPhone 6 packs an Apple A8 chip, which is believed to be, like in previous models, a dual-core chip, but the newly introduced Apple iPad Air 2 packs an Apple A8X chip, which, aside from being faster in all respects, allegedly adds another core to the table, for a triple core construction.

We’ve already heard and seen dual-, quad-, hexa-, and even octa-core chips in action, but a triple core construction is something new. According to Primate Labs, a well known benchmark application maker, the iPad Air 2 is indeed packing a triple core chip. As the Geekbench result chart shows (attached), this triple core chip offers increased performance, making the iPad Air 2 the best performing multi-core iOS device, by a large margin, being followed only by the iPhone 6.

Additionally, it looks like the speculation around the amount of RAM inside the iPad Air 2 will come to an end as well. Previous rumors have suggested that the new slate will indeed pack 2GB of RAM, and now various reports seem to confirm this, making the 2014 flagship Apple tablet the slate with the most amount of RAM among Apple’s line-up (basically double of what its predecessor was equipped with).

Do you care about specifics and details concerning internals of your gadgets, or simple, real-life speedy operation is enough for you?
