The much ballyhooed Samsung A Series has been in the rumor mill for months, and this evening Samsung decided to go ahead and make it official. The Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 have just been announced, and they are set to start rolling out next month in November.
There has been a lot of speculation about the Galaxy A Series, and who the lineup was actually aimed at. According to Sammy, they’re going after the youth movement with their new metal unibody and “advanced” functions for social networking. We’re guessing the youth angle comes into play with the 5MP selfie snappers, wide array of colors, and social media/camera tweaks.
The Samsung Galaxy A3 is what we thought it would be which means it has a 4.5-inch 540 x 960 display, 1.2GHz quad-core SoC, 1GB of RAM, and 8MP/5MP camera combo. It has a 1,900mAh battery and a microSD slot as well. Samsung Galaxy A5 is has the same processor, but a larger 5-inch 720p display, a 13MP rear camera, 16GB of internal (expandable) storage, and 2GB of RAM. It will get its power from a 2,300mAh battery. Both models with have an LTE variant with an NFC chip, and both will run Android 4.4.
Samsung hasn’t announced official pricing for the Samsung Galaxy A5 or Galaxy A3, but they will arrive in “select markets” sometime in November. When the land, you’ll be able to snag either in Champagne Gold, Pearl White, Midnight Black, Soft Pink, Light Blue, and Platinum Silver. No word on the Galaxy A7, but we expect to hear something sooner than later.
