Remember those Tizen smartphones from Samsung? Well, things haven’t gone quite as planned with those handsets, but a new report suggests a Samsung Tizen smartphone is gearing up for an arrival in India.
The Samsung Tizen smartphone is Samsung’s foray into a world without Android, as they are trying to test the mobile OS waters with Tizen. Rumors regarding their first Tizen-based handset have been circling the net for ages, and today we learned that Samsung is supposed to hold a presser on December 10th to announced a new device.
According to the report out of South Korea from the Maeil Business Newspaper, the company will announce the Samsung Tizen Z1 smartphone. If previous rumors prove to be true, it will be a mid-range handset and it will arrive in India first before possibly moving on to other parts of the globe. It’s also said to be less than $100 bucks which is good as the budget smartphone business in India booming, and we’re not sure how well a Tizen smartphone will do against similar devices running Android.
Samsung has been trying to get Tizen into the hands of consumers for a while now, and the Tizen Z1 smartphone will be a step in the right direction. That said, it may be too little too late considering it will be going up against the Android One handsets and hundreds of other budget handsets available in the country.
