The OnePlus One (pictured) has made a lot of waves since its introduction. One one end, the buzz was generated by a high-end smartphone sold at a pretty good (mid-range-like) price, and, on the other, the ordering process imposed by the company (which is invite-only), coupled with manufacturing issues (keeping up with demand, mostly), have fuelled the controversy around the OnePlus One.
Not so long ago we’ve heard rumors of a possible follow-up to the OnePlus One, tentatively called the OnePlus Two, and some reports were even trying to anticipate what the second iteration of the phone would bring. Today, we’re looking at a report from India which managed to pin down the OnePlus Two announcement (though the timeframe is rather wide).
Carl Pei, Director of OnePlus Global, has talked to Boy Genius Report India, and, has not only confirmed the plans for the OnePlus Two, but has also revealed the company’s commitment to having the device on the market by the third quarter of 2015. “We are planning to announce the OnePlus Two in Q2 or Q3 next year. So it is one year after this phone”, Carl Pei said, talking about the Two, following up on the One. Additionally, “India will be one of the first countries we will launch the OnePlus Two in”, he added, so those among you who live in India have a great reason of looking forward to this device. The OnePlus One has been recently made available in India and goes for 21,999INR, being available as an Amazon India exclusive. As a reminder of its specs, the One packs a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p screen, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 13-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel webcam, and a 3,100mAh battery.
As far as the specifications and overall presentation of the phone are concerned, there is nothing certain yet. Some reports claim that it will have a smaller display than the OnePlus One, and that it will cost somewhat more; other reports, like the recent Business Insider one we mentioned in the beginning, claim that there are “surprises in store when it comes to hardware”, however, without giving away anything.
