It doesn’t seem long ago since we started seeing 5-megapixel ‘selfie’ front facing cameras on smartphones. These are now growing in number but just as we’ve got used to this, Micromax has pushed the boat out even further. The Micromax Canvas Selfie specs have just been announced at the launch, and it features two 13-megapixel cameras.

The Canvas Selfie was launched in India today and steps up to the mark with not only a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Sensor and dual LED flash, but also a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash. This could be a smartphone photography enthusiasts dream, but of course we’ll have to wait to see if it lives up to expectations when it releases. Other camera features include Eye Enhancement, Skin Smoothening, Face Slimming, Teeth Whitening and more.

Further specs of the Canvas Selfie include a 1.7GHz octa-core processor, a 4.7-inch display with resolution of 1280 x 720, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD to 32GB). This is a dual SIM phone that supports 3G, has a 2300 mAh battery and runs the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. It also has a 3.5mm audio jack and FM radio.

The Canvas Selfie will be arriving for sale in India from the second week in January, but so far the price has not been announced. It will be available in Mystic Blue or Angelic White colour options. Most of the specs are roughly on a par with what we’d expect for these camera capabilities, but we’re a little disappointed with only a 720p display resolution rather than Full HD, and wonder what readers feel about this.
