We may gripe when an overpriced handset arrives, but in China it’s a little more extreme. It isn’t uncommon for smugglers to operate in China along with every other country on the planet, and tech is always a hot item. That said, it’s not every day you hear about a man getting arrested for smuggling in 94 iPhones… strapped to his body.
Customs officials have no doubt seen countless objects smuggled over the years, and you would probably have to try hard to surprise ones working at major airports or borders throughout the world. We’re not sure what the customs officials in China thought when they caught this guy as he was literally a walking iPhone 6.
The man is a resident of Hong Kong, and he used a fun combination of plastic bags and masking tape in his failed smuggling attempt. While it may seem strange to most of us, apparently this is common and “smartphone armor” is a technique a lot of smugglers use in the country. Needless to say, he would have been busted the second he had to clear a metal detector.
The mastermind iPhone smuggler was obviously caught as you can see from the photos, and the reason they nabbed him is as funny as his smuggling attempt. The man was noticed due to a “weird walking posture” and “joint stiffness” which is something you’re going to have to deal with when you have 94 iPhone’s taped to your body.
