The Asus PadFone S dropped in July of last year, and it was a solid handset with plenty of pop. That said, Asus must not be content with the original, as a new variant of the handset has just shown up in Taiwan packing 3GB of RAM.
The new version of the Asus PadFone S only has two things that separate it from the previous model, but both are components you would want to see upgraded. The RAM has grown from 2GB to 3GB, and the storage had doubled so you’ll have 64GB to work with now as well. Everything else appears to stay the same, but that’s not a bad thing as you’ll quickly learn from the Asus PadFone S specs.
The new Asus PadFone S variant features a 5-inch FHD display and will sport a Snapdragon 801 with the aforementioned 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the backside of the device, you’ll find a 13MP snapper with AF and an LED flash while a 2MP sensor takes care of the selfies. All the usual suspects are present in the connectivity department including NFC, and it will get its juice from a 2,300mAh battery. The PadFone S carries IPX2 waterproofing and will run Android 4.4 with ZenUI on top.
The 3GB PadFone S should be ready to roll in Taiwan, and one would assume it will slowly trickle out to other regions where the original PadFone S was sold. You’ll be able to pick one up in Pottery or Black, and as its name implies, you can use it with the 9-inch dock that puts the Pad in PadFone.
