Remember that Samsung Galaxy S6 Active that we’ve been telling you about for some time? Well, an official spot has just confirmed the existence of this rumored smartphone, and we also have some more news on specs of the device. It’s still not clear whether this will only be on sale as a model for US carrier AT&T or if it will be more widely available.
One of the only criticisms of the Galaxy S6 flagship has been its lack of microSD support, but it has been previously rumored that the S6 Active version would include microSD expansion. Last week we also showed an image of a handset claimed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active bearing AT&T branding, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
Finally though, the device has made an appearance via a Samsung Plus Program webpage. Although the phone has not been officially announced yet, it has shown up on a page that gives customers services, benefits, and support for Samsung devices. This is a dead giveaway that the phone actually exists, as it’s listed right between the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.
The appearance of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active shows a release date along with awarded points for the device. However, the availability date is a bit of a mystery. Samsung has it listed as April 10, 2015, and obviously that date has already passed with no sign of the phone’s arrival. However, as Galaxy S Active phones have generally been launched around June or July, it could be that the date was just a placeholder. Alternatively if could be the case that Samsung intended to release the S6 Active earlier but decided to make the most of sales for the S6 and S6 Edge. Another possibility is that the phone was slightly delayed so that the rumored microSD card slot could be added to the mix.
As for specs of the device, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is thought to have similar specs to the S6 flagship. Unconfirmed specs include an Exynos 7420 octa-core processor, and a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440. It’s also thought to have a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 3500 mAh battery, microSD slot, and of course a more rugged build.
Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until Samsung officially introduces the phone. Are you hoping that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be released soon?
