There have been several leaks over the last few weeks about two upcoming Gionee smartphones. At last the Gionee Elife E8 and Gionee Marathon M5 prices have been made official, along with specs, release date and more. We have plenty of information coming right up about both of these new devices.
We’ll begin with the superior and most highly-anticipated of the two, the Gionee Elife E8. This one leans towards those who enjoy photography on their smartphones, and it’s powered by a 2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor, with PowerVR 6200 graphics, and has a 6-inch AMOLED display with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 resulting in 490 ppi. It has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
Camera performance comes from a 24-megapixel rear camera that features software enabling images up to a whopping 120-megapixels. The camera has phase detection autofocus, six-element lens featuring sapphire glass, dual tone LED FLASH, lossless zoom, 4K video capture, and optical image stabilization. Gionee says that the camera app can be launched in just 0.8s. It also has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3520 mAh battery.
The phone (pictured directly below) runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with the Amigo UI 3.1 and is dual SIM with both slots supporting 4G LTE. The Gionee Elife E8 will release in China from July 15 and the price has been confirmed at CNY 3,999. That equates to around $644, £415, €570 or Rs. 41,130. We’ll point out that these are only indicators as pricing can vary by region. There’s not much news yet on where else the phone will be available although it should be launching in India sometime in August.
Now we’ll move on to the Gionee Marathon M5, which would particularly suit those who want a significant amount of battery life. Gionee has acknowledged that one of the major bugbears for many smartphone users concerns battery life, and the company has dealt with this by including a pair of batteries. These each have a capacity of 3010 mAh, combining to make 6020 mAh in total. The phone supports fast charging utilizing dual charging chips meaning they can be charged simultaneously, and there’s also smart power consumption management. All of this is aimed at providing up to four days worth of heavy usage.
Other specs are not so impressive, but decent enough. The Marathon M5 has 5.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with HD resolution of 1280 x 720, a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor, Mali-T760 graphics, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD). It’s a dual SIM handset with 4G LTE, a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 1080p video capture, and 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. It also runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Amigo UI 3.1.
The Gionee Marathon M5 is set to release in China on June 25 with a price of CNY 2,299, equivalent to around $370, £239, €328, or Rs. 23,650. However, we should remember that availability and pricing for other regions hasn’t been announced yet.
The Gionee Elife E8 sounds like it has plenty to offer smartphone buyers looking for a high-end flagship, while the Marathon M5 (pictured below) might be a good option looking for better battery life in their handset.
