Project Ara release may be delayed through Market Pilot re-route
Remember Project Ara? We were expecting to see the first modular smartphone roll into Puerto Rico before the end of the year, but that may not be the case anymore. It’s not time to write off Moto and Google’s modular concept although Alphabet may have just changed the script.
News on Project Ara has been very light this year, and the last solid tidbit we received came in January. At that time, we learned a pilot program would arrive in Puerto Rico, and got a good look at several modules. Needless to say, it got the internet buzzing and a lot of folks were waiting for the first units to show up. Well, a series of tweets from Motorola says not so fast…
The first series of tweets simply said they had been busy making stuff, and then they told the world that they were doing a Market pilot re-route. While they said it wasn’t “goodbye” to Puerto Rico, it implies the Project Ara release may hit another region first. Any news is good news at this point if you’re interested in the smartphone, and we have a fingers crossed for a wider launch.

It’s likely Google’s restructuring has played a part in Project Ara breaking its silence, and we hope it’s good news and not a delay. The Project Ara team has said we can expect more news next week, so rest assured we’ll be back to bring you the news when we now more about their plans for the modular smartphone.
Are you still looking forward to the Project Ara release?
