The Micromax Canvas 5 is a smartphone that we’ve heard rumours about for almost as long as we can remember. Earlier this year there were leaks suggesting it was about to launch, but that failed to come to fruition. Now though, the phone has officially launched in India, and we have details coming up of Micromax Canvas 5 availability, price, and specs.
So when will you be able to get hold of the Canvas 5? There’s good news on that score as the phone will be up for grabs from today at stores across the country. The Micromax Canvas 5 price is Rs. 11,999 and there are a couple of launch offers available. Airtel 4G customers can take advantage of a double data offer for 3 months as well as a 7-day doorstep service policy. The company has also collaborated with Bajaj Finance to offer a 12-month EMI plan. At the time of purchase buyers will need to pay four advance EMIs.
Now we get to the crucial specs news of the device, and many people have been waiting for confirmed specifications. The Micromax Canvas 5 is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor, with Mali-T720 graphics, and a 5.2-inch IPS display with Full HD display resolution of 1920 x 1080 resulting in 424 ppi. The screen features 2.5D arc glass and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Further Micromax Canvas 5 specs include 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD to 64GB), and a 2900 mAh battery claimed to last for 275 hours on standby or up to 10 hours of talk time. The new Micromax phone has a 13-megapixel rear camera with Samsung 3M2 sensor, phase detection autofocus, and LED flash. As well as this there’s a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter that also has flash.
This is a dual micro SIM (4G + 2G) handset and it runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system that will be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the future. Connectivity is catered for with 4G LTE (FDD-LTE Band 3 for India), 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. The Canvas 5 measures 148mm x 73.6mm x 8.5mm and it weighs in at 143g.
It’s offered in Tan Brown of Space Grey colour choices and has a metal frame. On this image showing the tan colour you can see that the back cover has a leather look. Features include Video Pop-Out, Smart Wake Gestures, and (CABC) Content Adaptive Backlight Control. It feels as though it has been a long wait for this phone to reach availability, but at last it’s here and there are some decent improvements over the Micromax Canvas 4.
We’re intrigued to hear your first thoughts on the Micromax Canvas 5 following the official launch? How do you feel about the price and specs of this new smartphone for India?
