Mysterious Xiaomi Gemini hits Geekbench with a Snapdragon 820
Much was made about the Snapdragon 810 this year, and the Snapdragon 820 has been in the news plenty of times. A smartphone dubbed the Xiaomi Gemini has just shown up in a new benchmark listing, and it confirms one device that will arrive with Qualcomm’s speedy new chip.
The Snapdragon 820 exists, this is certain. The chip has been the topic of plenty of rumors and was even said to debut with the new Nexus 6P and a handful of other devices. Well, that obviously didn’t happen, but Xiaomi has been a company at the forefront of those rumors and a new device from carrying their branding has just been benchmarked running the new SoC.
The Geekbench listing was uploaded today and shows a device called the Xiaomi Gemini with the Snapdragon 820 and with 3GB of RAM. It’s also running on Android 6.0 and was able to score 2,140 on the single-core tests while the multi-core scores come in at 4,762. The processor was clocked at 1.59GHz, so there’s still room to breathe despite those strong scores.
So what is the Xiaomi Gemini? It’s believed to be the mythical smartphone known as the Xiaomi Mi5 and if that is the case, we should start seeing leaks or get some official teases soon. As the chip is official, it’s only a matter of time before it starts showing up in new smartphones, and the Xiaomi Gemini, or the Xiaomi Mi5 if you prefer, looks to be one of the first handsets to roll out with Qualcomm’s new flagship processor.
Are you excited for the new wave of processors for Snapdragon or are you more concerned with features and design in 2016?
