The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are heading for an official launch, rumored for next month, and leaks about these smartphones have been prolific. Now a Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935A benchmark has appeared, but the specifications listed contradict the leaked display specs so far.
Just last week we gave details of some new leaks from Weibo about the S7 and S7 Edge variant. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge specs were given then as a Snapdragon 820 processor (and also a possible Exynos 8 Octa 8890 variant), a 5.5-inch display with Quad HD resolution, 4GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB for internal storage. Further specs given were a 12-megapixel rear camera and 3600 mAh battery, but of course none of this has been confirmed so far.
Now a Samsung Galaxy handset with model number SM-G935A has surfaced in an AnTuTu benchmark, and SamMobile reports that this is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge variant for AT&T. The sighting matches with many of the previously leaked specs for the device. This includes the Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or internal storage. Other specs shown are a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. As expected it’s running the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
When it comes to the display size things get confusing though. The previous round of leaked specs indicated a 5.1-inch display for the Galaxy S7 and a 5.5-inch display for the Galaxy S7 Edge. However, the AnTuTu filing shows the Galaxy S7 Edge with a 5.1-inch display (still with QHD resolution). This throws up a few possibilities. It could be that there will be a Galaxy S7 Plus 5.5-inch model that released at the same time as the S7 and S7 Edge. It could just as easily be that there will not be a 5.5-inch variant at all, or that the benchmark model is merely a prototype and not the finished retail product.
We’ll also point out that the AnTuTu listing lists this SM-G935A model as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and not the Galaxy S7 Edge. Variants are not always made clear on benchmarks though, and SamMobile seems pretty sure of its facts regarding it being the S7 Edge for carrier AT&T.
Ultimately this has confused the picture somewhat, but no doubt over the coming weeks we’ll see further leaks that will give us a firmer idea of what to expect. Are you keenly waiting for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? What are your thoughts on this latest news about the device?
