Over the last few weeks we’ve seen growing indications that a 2nd gen Samsung Galaxy J1 would be launching shortly. Yesterday we showed some leaked images claimed to be of this smartphone and shared some rumored specs. Now just a day later all doubt can be removed, as the new Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 has launched in Dubai without fanfare.
We’re not sure quite why Samsung has given such a low-key arrival to the Galaxy J1 2nd gen, but it’s reported that the original J1 successor is already on sale at stores in Dubai. If you’re not in Dubai and are waiting for this phone, it’s still good news. Once we see the release of a new Samsung smartphone in one region, we usually see availability spread to other markets shortly after.
The budget smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor (with a likely Exynos 3475 chipset), and has a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution of 800 x 480. There’s 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and juice comes from a 2050 mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 also supports 4G LTE connectivity as standard, rather than it being an option.
Camera-wise you’re looking at a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper, so there’s no changes there. It runs the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as expected. The Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 price in Dubai is AED 499. That works out at around $135, £94, €125 or Rs. 9,080, although pricing could vary for different markets.
The design is an exact match for the leaked images we showed yesterday, so it’s a typical looking affordable Samsung Galaxy handset. We imagine it won’t be too much longer until we see the Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 arrives for sale elsewhere, and you can sure we’ll keep you informed.
Are you a potential buyer of the new Samsung Galaxy J1 2016? Do you think it has improved enough upon the original J1? Send your comments to let us know.
