OnePlus blew a lot of folks away with their first smartphone offering, aside from a few marketing missteps. The same can’t be said for the sequel, but the OnePlus 3 could bring consumers to the company in droves if a new set of benchmark specifications pan out.
A new handset has shown up on the benchmarking site that is believed to be a OnePlus 3 variant. While the listing doesn’t scream OnePlus, the model numbers match up with a previous benchmark listing. The flagship is dubbed the Rain Rain and carries the model number A3000, but the variant is the one you’ll want to take note of as it could have something under the hood that most flagships lack.
According to the listing, the RAIN RAIN A300 sports a Qualcomm MSM8996, otherwise known as the Snapdragon 820. The chip is what we expected, but the memory isn’t as the RAM is as it is listed at 6GB. We haven’t seen too many phones break the 6GB barrier, so having that amount of RAM under the hood would surely draw some interest. With that in mind, previous listings and rumors pointed towards 4GB of RAM, so this could be a variant or a simple error in the listing. Nothing else was mentioned in regards to the OnePlus 3 specifications aside from possible storage options of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
The OnePlus 2 was released in August, and while we’ve heard the OnePlus 3 release date will arrive early, we don’t believe that will be the case. Like any other handset, leaks generally spill out months before a launch, and we really haven’t heard much information on the device if it’s going to get an early rollout this year. That said, maybe OnePlus learned to keep a secret, and if that’s the case we could see the OnePlus 3 launch as early as next month.
