When Sony decided to adopt the X moniker, plenty of consumers were excited to see what the company had in store with their new handsets. If you reside in India, the wait is over as the Sony Xperia X and the Sony Xperia XA have just been unleashed in the region.
Sony has had its fair share of woes in the smartphone game over the past few years, and they hope to right ship with their 2016 lineup. The Sony Xperia X and the Sony Xperia XA are two of their latest smartphones, and the versions bound for India are the Dual SIM variants… basically the same handsets we covered earlier this year but with Dual SIM connectivity.
First up is the lesser spec’d of the two, the Sony Xperia XA Dual that sports a 5-inch curved glass panel with a resolution of 1,280 x 720. The chip powering the show is listed as the octa-core Media-Tek Helio P10 and find 2GB of RAM under the hood to back it up. The storage is a bit sparse at 16GB, but expandable through a microSD card slot. Other features to note include a 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE, a 2,300mAh battery with Qnovo quick charge, and Android 6.0.
If you are in need of a smartphone with a bit more pop, while still offering up many of the same features, the Sony Xperia X may be better suited to your needs. It has the same sized panel but with a higher resolution of 1080p, and the connectivity options remain largely the same. Everything else has changed, however, so you will find a Snapdragon 650 in place of the P10 and the RAM has been bumped up to 3GB. The storage doubles to 32GB, while the rear camera is listed as a 23MP Exmor RS snapper with Predictive Hybrid Auto Focus.
The front-facing camera on the Sony Xperia X is going to be pretty spectacular at 13MP, so your selfies are going to look better than most folks. The standard connectivity options are present as well along with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 and a fingerprint scanner. Audiophiles will surely appreciate the smartphones audio setup as well with LDAC, Digital Noise Cancelling, and DSEE HX. The Sony Xperia X will sip its power from a 2,630mAh battery and is listed with Android 6.0 out of the box.
While Sony’s new smartphones look great and have almost everything you could want out of a handset, their price is going to put them out of the range of some consumers. The Xperia XA Dual will set you back Rs. 20,990 or $312, while the beefier Sony Xperia X Dual price is listed at Rs. 46,990 or $700 bucks. Both handsets will be available in Black, White, Rose Gold, and Lime Gold with pre-orders beginning June 7th ahead of a launch a few weeks later.
