The Gear VR platform is still young, but Oculus has been great about putting out updates since its release. According to a new rumor, an upcoming Gear VR update is going to change things up significantly in Oculus Home.
As someone who has spent a lot of time in VR, I can attest that the experience is quite different between the Gear VR and Oculus Rift. I’m not talking about the specs or content either, just the actual UI. While the Oculus Home for the Gear VR is nothing to scoff at, a new update is said to bring it in line with the other version of Oculus Home on the Rift.
A super sleuthy gamer on Reddit has uncovered a video of an update rumored to arrives soon for the Gear VR. If you’re not familiar with Rift, then the video probably won’t mean much to you, but the changes are drastic to say the least. If true, sometime in the near future your Oculus Home is going to look very different on the Gear VR, and it may be missing one feature. The “Friends” section wasn’t shown in the promo although we assume it’s coming as the social side of VR is important to Oculus and Sammy.
The Gear VR update has yet to arrive on my device but is expected to roll out in stages whenever it lands. Needless to say, you’ll want to steel yourself for it before strapping on your headset after the update as the changes could be shocking if you don’t see them coming after staring at the same UI for hours one end.
What kind of changes would you like to see come to Oculus Home or the Gear VR platform in general?
