Samsung has introduced a new handset today in the Samsung Galaxy J Max. As the name implies, it’s the jumbo-sized version of the J2 although it is missing one nifty new feature.
Much ado has been made of the Samsung Galaxy J2, and not for its style or specifications. The Smart Glow notification light on its backside has gotten quite a bit of attention, and for good reason, as it’s pretty darned cool. Unfortunately, the trend did not continue with the Samsung Galaxy J Max as it doesn’t have the Smart Glow setup but does absolutely dwarf the regular J2 when it comes to size.
The Samsung Galaxy J Max is far beyond the phablet class. It has a large 7-inch TFT panel, which is nuts but unfortunately, they kept the resolution low at 1,280 x 800. Pixels aside, the handset is powered by a combination of a quad-core 1.5GHz quad-core chip and 1.5GB of RAM. It only has 16GB out of the box, but Sammy will let you open things up with a microSD card slot that allows for expansion up to 200GB.
As you can tell by the Samsung Galaxy J Max specs, it is decidedly mid-range and those average sensibilities extend to the camera department. That means you will get an 8MP sensor with an LED flash on the backside to go along with a 2MP front-facing snapper. The full array of connectivity options are present as well with Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 4G VoLTE. The Dual-SIM J Max pulls its juice from a 4,000mAh battery and is listed with Android 5.1 out of the box.
Sammy will unleash the Samsung Galaxy J Max this month for consumers in India, where it will carry a price tag of Rs. 13,400, which shakes out to around $199. There are certainly better alternatives for your money if you need better specs, but you will be hard priced to find a smartphone from a reputable company this large for that cheap.
