We may be halfway through the calendar year, but there are still plenty of high-powered handsets headed our way. The Huawei Honor 8 is one of them, and we are pleased to announce the device is official with a solid price tag that starts at $299.
The Honor 8 rolled through TENAA a few weeks back, and we knew it wouldn’t be long before it made its official debut. That day is upon us, and the phone is just as slick as we thought it would be. It all starts with the design, which features a metal frame and a slim 7.45mm waistline. The back panel is covered in glass as well, while the front side sports the popular 2.5D curved glass.
As for what’s under that glass, the Honor 8 specs show a 5.2-inch FHD display that carries a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. The processor is the octa-core Kirin 950, so you’ll have plenty of pop, even more so when you factor in 3GB or 4GB of RAM. The storage varies depending on which model you choose — the 3GB option comes with 32GB of storage while the 4GB model gives you an option of 32GB or 64GB.
Cameras have become an increasingly important feature on top-tier handsets, and the Huawei Honor 8 should perform admirably in the camera department. It has Dual 12MP sensors on the backside with a Dual-Tone LED flash and Laser Auto Focus. That’s nifty, and an 8MP front-facing camera will take care of your seflie needs.
Other features to note include a hybrid Dual SIM setup (nano/microSD), a fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, a USB Type-C port, GPS, and NFC. The Honor 8 will draw its power from a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charging and runs Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1 on top. It has all the bells & whistles, with the only weak point being the lack of a QHD display…which isn’t a bad thing for some folks.
As expected, Honor 8 release date will hit China first where the smartphone will debut on July 19th with the base model priced at 1999 Yuan or $299. The 4GB/32GB variant comes in at 2299 Yuan/$340 while the 4GB Honor 8 with 64GB of storage is priced at 2499 Yuan or $375 bucks. There’s been no word on an international launch at this time, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as that changes.
