Earlier today we told you about the big, bad Honor 8 Note that was unveiled. Now it’s time to take a look at something on the other end of the smartphone spectrum with the Honor 5, which will soon roll out in China.

Huawei still may not be a brand name here in the states, but that is going to change in the next few years. They have already started their slow assault on the West, and devices like the Honor 5 are going to make more folks want their handsets abroad. While it’s not nearly as beastly as the Honor 8, its specifications are respectable and the same can be said of its price.

The Honor 5 is of average size measuring 143.8mm x 72mm x 8.9mm and has a weight of 138grams. It sports a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6735P clocked at 1.3GHz. There are no variants currently with this one, so you will get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage out of the box.

If there’s a weak spot on the Honor 5, it would have to be its front-facing camera, which is listed at a paltry 2MP but somehow has an LED flash. The rear camera is solid at 8MP with a Dual LED flash, and we would be remiss if we did not mention the microSD card that allows for expansion. Other features to note include Dual SIM slots, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, and a 2,200mAh battery. The Honor 5 is listed with Android 5.1, but one would assume it will get the 6.0 upgrade eventually.

The Honor 5 release date will arrive a bit sooner than its large sibling as you’ll be able to snag one on August 2nd if you reside in China. There’s been no word on an international rollout at the moment, but rest assured we’ll keep you in the loop as the Honor 5 price shakes out to around $90 which instantly makes it a contender.
