Micromax is back in the news this week with a brand new handset bound for consumers in India. The Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition is the device on display, and while it is another variant, it does have a bit of style.
We love a good variant as much as anyone, but only when it brings something new to the table or gives a handset a nice price cut. The original Micromax Canvas 5 touched down last year, and as you might suspect from the “Lite” moniker, the new model is going to be dumbed down in a few areas. That said, the company is freshening up the design to make up for those shortcomings as the Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition will come with a back plate featuring a slick Walnut wood finish.
Despite the Lite tag, the Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition will have 3GB of RAM under the hood to go along with a 1GHz quad-core chip. The internal storage is listed at 16GB and the display clocks in at a cool 5-inches with a resolution of 1,280 x 720. Aside from the chip, the innards are quite solid and even with the 1GHz processor, it will certainly get the job done.
On the rear of the Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition, you will find an 8MP sensor with an LED flash, while the front-facing camera is listed at 5MP. Connectivity options include a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G LTE, and Dual SIM slots. The Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition is listed as running the somewhat outdated Android 5.0 and will draw its juice from a 2,000mAh battery.
At this time, there has been no word on the Micromax Canvas 5 Lite Special Edition price as it’s shown up without one on the company’s official website. You can expect that to change in the very near future as most of the company’s handsets get a formal release or price soon after showing up online.
