If you keep up with our site, you have come across plenty of articles talking about edgeless or bezeless displays. The Xiaomi Mi Mix is first one to actually live up to the hype, and it’s not a myth as you will be able to buy this one if you reside in China.
Many of the phone concepts we cover have had hardcore specs or a stunning design. One common trait amongst them all is the display as more often than not, it will be edgeless in renders. Well, we are pleased to say someone actually got it right with the Xiaomi Mi Mix. If you’ve been longing for something futuristic, you’ve just found it…
A quick glimpse at the Xiaomi Mi Mix tells you everything you need to know. It’s big, (almost) bezeless and screams Flagship. Before we get to the Xiaomi Mi Mix specs, let’s start with the luxurious panel. It’s a 6.4-inch IPS display with a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio and a resolution of 2,040 x 1,080. Somehow they also managed to keep things thin as the handset only measures 158.8mm x 81.9mm x 7.9mm with a weight of 209grams.
Beneath that massive slab of glass, you will find the Snapdragon 821. There’s an option with the RAM and storage as the low configuration has 4GB and 128GB while the top-tier model comes with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s no microSD card slot, but you shouldn’t need one unless you are a mobile media mogul of sorts. Did we mention the ultrasonic proximity sensor? It has one of those as well, just don’t expect us to explain the tech behind it.
On the rear of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, you will find a 16MP sensor with a Dual-LED flash and PDAF. The front-facing camera is a bit of a letdown by comparison but will get the job done at 5MP. All the usual connectivity options are present as well with Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, A-GPS/GLONASS, and a Fingerprint scanner.
The smartphone also has a 4,400mAh battery with quick charge courtesy of the Type-C USB port and runs Android 6.0 out of the box. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the build quality as well. It has a glossy black ceramic body, which hopefully won’t be a fingerprint magnet but looks great nonetheless.
As much as we’d love to throw our money Xiaomi’s way, the Xiaomi Mi Mix isn’t going to be an easy one to get. It will go on sale in China and there has been no word on an international release. The base 3GB model of the Xiaomi Mi Mix will be ready to roll on November 4th for 3499 Yuan which shakes out to around $516 while the 6GB model is listed at the equivalent of $590.
