It’s official. The Huawei Mate 9 release date has arrived and it looks like all those leaks were true. That’s a great thing if you are in the market for a high-end flagship that has almost everything you could ask for from a smartphone in 2016.
The Huawei Mate 9 release has been a long time coming. We have been keeping up with the rumors and leaks for half the year, but can finally put all those to rest. The company put on quite the show today and the highlight was definitely the classy and sassy Huawei Mate 9. As we said, it “almost” has everything you could want with the one exception being the display. The company has been slow to come around to the QHD way of thinking, so you will have to make due with an FHD panel on their new flagship.
While the Huawei Mate 9 may only have a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, you will have plenty of display thanks to the 5.9-inch screen with 2.5D glass. Under the hood, you will find an octa-core Kirin 960 processor combined with 4GB of RAM while a Mali G71 GPU will handle the graphics. The storage is more than sufficient as well with 64GB out of the box and it’s expandable to boot.
One of the big draws for the Huawei Mate 9 was going to be the cameras, and the company isn’t going to disappoint us in that area. The rear camera is listed as 20MP Monochrome sensor and a 12MP RGB sensor with Leica lenses which sports a Dual Tone LED flash, Laser AF, and OIS. The front-facing snapper clocks in at 8MP, so needless to say, it should take outstanding photos.
While the Huawei Mate 9 may be big, it is fairly svelte with a metal shell measuring 156.9mm x 78.9mm x 7.9mm and has a weight of 190grams. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, and Dual SIM slots. It also has a fingerprint scanner and supports quick charging through SuperCharge tech. The battery is listed at 4,000mAh and it will run Android 7.0 out of the box with Emotion UI 5.0 tacked on.
Now for the all-important part, the Huawei Mate 9 price. The smartphone is a beast and will not be cheap with a price tag of around €699 which shakes out to around $755 or Rs. 51,641 depending on where you reside. The smartphone will be available in a wide variety of hues in Europe, the UAE, Spain, Thailand, Japan, China and Malaysia before moving on to the U.S. and other locales at a later date.
