Winter is approaching in some parts of the globe, which means Pokemon hunting is going to take a nosedive. Niantic has a remedy for that as a new Pokemon GO update is going to unleash a slew of new Pokemon characters.

Pokémon may be a game about “catching them all” but Niantic did not make it easy out of the gate in Pokemon GO. Completionists noticed more than a few missing characters when the game was first unleashed. That was understandable considering how many there are in all, but that is going to change soon. A couple of new Pokémon were spotted in the code of a new update, and it appears that is the tip of the iceberg.

It is safe to assume plenty of gamers have already snagged all 151 creatures in Pokémon GO. The new update will offer up 100 new Pokemon GO characters, which means Generation 2 is headed your way. The update should include 52 new Pokémon families and characters from entry 152 to 251 in the Pokedex. In addition to the new characters, the sleuths also uncovered a new Sponsor, Quest System and a few other interesting tidbits.

While the news of the new Pokemon GO characters is awesome, it may be a while before they actually show up. No “moveset data” was found in the code, which means there’s a bit more work to be done before they actually appear in the game.
