There are plenty of trends we would love to see die in the smartphone world, themed-variants are not one of them. A new Star Wars Smartphone appeared over the holiday and it’s set to debut for lovers of both the Light… and Dark sides.
Whether you are a Rebel or roll with the Empire, Sharp has a new handset built just for you. That’s assuming you also live in Japan although that is a hurdle some can jump with the proper import papers. Previously, we had seen Marvel and DC tie-ins from Samsung and a few others, but we have a feeling the Star Wars Smartphone is going to rule them all. Unless a LOTR smartphone drops.
While the new Star Wars Smartphones may not seem all that great at first glance, a closer look will have you throwing money at the screen. The Dark Side smartphone has a black front with a Royal Guard colored back complete with the Star Wars moniker and proper logo. There are red accents on some of the buttons as well, which look great against the black sides. The Light Side smartphone is the polar opposite with White and Blue hues and the Rebel symbol on the back.
The new Star Wars Smartphones look groovy, but that’s just a part of what makes them cool. Both have themed wallpapers, emojis, and ringtones true to your chosen faction and those wallpapers are of the live variety. As you can see, it will make your phone feel like a cockpit and you’ll get a special alarm clock to boot. Throw in a special Star Wars movie player app complete with the Force Awakens and you’ve got yourself a sweet little setup. Now let’s take a quick look at the Star Wars Smartphone specifications…

The Star Wars Smartphone is only going to be available to consumers in Japan as it’s a product of Softbank. While they have been responsible for several other handsets we’d like to get a hold of, don’t expect this one to (officially) leave those borders anytime soon. That said, as massive Star Wars fans, we will let you know if that changes.
