Asus had a busy week at CES 2017 and it appears they aren’t quite done yet. The Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S has been announced in the Far East, and it looks to be a solid mid-range option with a very nice price tag.
Over the summer Asus introduced the world to the Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3. The metal-clad handset had solid specifications and was affordable with the 3GB variant running $199. The Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S is the upgraded model which comes with 3GB stock and has a couple of other fine features we think will be of interest to consumers.
The original Pegasus had a large 4,100mAh battery but the follow-up does it one better. The Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S specs show a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support which is said to provide enough juice for around month on standby. Needless to say, it will get you through the day on a single charge. There is also a home button on the new model which houses a fingerprint scanner but most of the other features appear to remain the same.
Asus bucked the phablet trend with this one as it sports a 5.2-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720. You’ll get 3GB of RAM to go along with a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core chip. There is an option however when it comes to storage with either 32GB or 64GB out of the box. Both will be expandable through a microSD card slot up to 2TB so you don’t need to sweat the cloud.
The front-facing camera on the Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S is listed at 8MP which is an upgrade over the 5MP sensor found on the previous model. The rear camera appears to stay the same at 13MP with PDAF and the usual bells & whistles. The connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Dual SIM card slots. The Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S will run Android 7.0 out of the box.
You’ll have to reside in the Far East if you want to scoop up the Asus ZenFone Pegasus 3S where it will launch with a price tag of $288 for the larger 64GB model. The 32GB variants price is unknown as are the company’s plans for a wider release on this model.
