Sony’s handsets were once near the top of the food chain, but times have changed and things have slowed down considerably. The Sony G3221 smartphone may help the company turn their fortunes around as it’s just rolled through AnTuTu with some very interesting specifications.
Sony decided to shake things up last year with their X lineup, but several factors kept them from truly taking off. Like HTC, LG, and others, they hope to right the ship this year, and the Sony G3221 smartphone could be the first step towards doing just that. Until today, we had heard nothing about this particular device although we know it will land with a different moniker.
According to the listing, the Sony G3221 smartphone will be powered by the speedy MediaTek Helio P20. The chip will get a nice boost from 4GB of RAM while the storage is listed at 64GB. As you’d expect, there is no word on expansion or any other types of ports. We do know the display will carry a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 however which puts this one in the mid-range class. That said, the rear camera is listed at 23MP and the front-facing snapper at 16MP so it’s going to be a step above other handsets in its class.
While Sony is expected to make an appearance at MWC 2017, what they bring to the table is anyone’s guess. They’ve made some strange choices over the years in regards to their launch windows and announcements as well. Considering the Sony G3221 specifications, it’s one we’ll keep an eye on as we creep closer to Barcelona in February.
