Crowdfunded gadgets can be tricky, especially smartphones. While we won’t pick on the ZTE Hawkeye too much, the Elephone Z1 is the latest handset to rely on the masses for funding. Unlike the Hawkeye, this one is all about the specs and not funky features.
Like high-end specifications? We do, and Elephone knows that consumers dig powerful processors and more RAM than most consumers need. That’s part of the picture painted by the Elephone Z1 as it will sport the speedy Helio P20 and 6GB of RAM. There is 64GB of internal storage as well to go along with a microSD card slot for expansion. It will be of the hybrid variety however so you’ll need to choose between that second line or expanding.
The Elephone Z1 is still very much in the “concept” phase so some details are unknown at this time. That said, their landing page does mention a 13MP rear camera, fingerprint sensor, and a NXP HD Audio Amplifier. It’s safe to say the design is easy on the eyes as well. The rear plate is referred to as a Lumia back cover and the bezels are “barely there” on the front. Last but not least is a 3,100mAh battery which promises 2 days of battery life with their new power management system.
On paper, the Elephone Z1 may not seem like the type of crazy device we generally see from crowdfunding platforms. That’s because the “crazy” has been reserved for the Elephone Z1 price. Early Bird backers of this one will only have to shell out $189 to scoop one. If you don’t want to risk it, you can pre-order one for $49 and pay the balance of $150 when it goes on sale.
