As the year comes to an end, many companies are counting on their success for the past year. Many are reporting that they did good, while the others are quietly getting ready to attack harder in the new year. As always, app stores from both platforms are releasing the most downloaded apps from their stores, and it is no different this year. As such, read on to find out every application that made it to the Google Play Store top downloads. If you’re an iOS user though, click here to see all of the top downloads for the Apple store. And without further ado, let’s begin!

Applications

The general applications category is where many new apps emerged and surpassed old contesters, and it is not different this year either. Here are the most downloaded apps for this year:

• FaceApp
• What The Forecast?!!
• Boomerang (Beta)
• TopBuzz Video: Viral Videos, Funny GIFs & TV Shows
• Yarn – Chat Fiction

The most controversial FaceApp made the top of the list, with more surprising contesters like TopBuzz Video and Yarn. Boomerang and What the Forecast are great apps, worthy of both being in your device. The most surprising fact is that there is no other social network app, such as Instagram or Snapchat.

Games

If the application list is full of many underdogs, the games top downloads list won’t catch anyone off-guard. Here are the top five most downloaded games in the Google Play Store:

• Super Mario Run
• Bubble Witch Saga
• Magic Tiles 3
• CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars
• Ballz

We all know that Super Mario Run will top the list, mainly because it was Nintendo’s first entry into the smartphone world. Bubble Witch Saga is the continuation to King’s big smartphone gaming success, and it is proved by the big downloads number. The same can be said about Magic Tiles 3, with CATS and Ballz completing the list.

Songs

This is the category where the winners are the most obvious, as we can see from the list:

• by Kendrick Lamar
• Shape of You by Ed Sheeran
• by Kendrick Lamar
• Mask Off by Future
• Body Like a Back Road by Sam Hunt

Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar are the true winners of the past year, as they are one of the most famous artists for 2017. I’m curious how Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee did not make it to the top five. Nevertheless, these songs were all expected to top the lists, and it was no different on the Google Play Store either.

Movies

Many big and great titles were shown off on the big screen this year, and some of them made it to the list:

• Moana
• Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
• Wonder Woman
• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
• Doctor Strange

As expected, Star Wars and Wonder Woman are floating high in the charts, with Moana being the leader. Guardians of the Galaxy is not behind them either, with the only surprise being Doctor Strange. Nevertheless, all of these are great movies and worth every minute of your precious time.

TV Shows

Big and expected titles are topping the chart, and here it is:

• Game of Thrones
• Rick and Morty
• The Walking Dead
• The Big Bang Theory
• Doctor Who

I won’t add anything about the top three, everyone knows or have heard about them before. I’m happy to see that The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who are still ranging high. Given that many of the other great shows are streamed on other platforms, it is not a surprise to still see them topping the charts.

Books

And last, but not least, in the books department there are some huge titles:

• The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
• It by Stephen King
• The Battlemage by Taran Matharu
• Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
• Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

All of these books are great titles and worth every penny. It proved to be one of the most famous ones for the year, and alongside The Subtle Art and Ready Player One are already in my reading list.
