LG V30s – the replacement for the LG G7?

LG V30

LG V30

In my opinion, LG is one of the most underrated brands in the smartphone department. And that’s not fair towards them, considering the great devices they released last year. Starting with the LG G6, it was one of the first smartphones to feature the now famous 18:9 aspect ratio on its display. It offered excellent specs and premium design, and it was one of my favorite smartphones. Their most recent device, the LG V30, is one of the best smartphones available right now, and it pack many features other competitors lack. And now, LG plans to release an upgraded version of it, named as the LG V30s. Let’s see the details about it.

Design

The report suggests that the only change between the regular and the V30s would be inside the device. But, that doesn’t stop us to review the beautiful design once again. On the front, you will find the same 6” P-OLED panel with the famous 18:9 aspect ratio. The colors are great, and brightness is high enough. The taller display means for smaller bezels, giving the device a sleek look. On the back, you will find the dual camera setup in the middle, with the famous fingerprint sensor and power button combo under it. The glass finish gives the device a premium feeling in the hand, as you’d expect from a flagship device.

Features

The LG V30s will have all of its novelties on the inside. Performance wise, you’re still getting the same deal as the regular V30, but that isn’t a bad thing. The Snapdragon 835 is one of the best chipsets available right now, and accompanied by 4GB of RAM, the device will handle everything you throw at it. The novelty in the V30s will be in the internal storage, as the capacity will be increased to 256GB. That is a huge improvement over the 64GB available in the regular V30. The 3300mAh battery might still be found on the V30s, but we could see an upgraded one.

The cameras will mostly remain the same, with the biggest change happening in the software. The 16MP + 13MP combination proved good enough for many users, making the LG V30 one of the most used devices among videographers. The LG V30s wants to improve even further on that, with the inclusion of LG Lens. Namely, LG Lens will give the camera AI capabilities, recognizing objects and improving the quality for any different environment. LG Lens will also give users the ability to search and shop items using the camera. Language translation will also be available, in a similar manner as Google Translate works. All of these features are welcoming, and I believe that many users will find them useful.

Pricing and availability

The LG V30s will be announced on MWC 2018 in Barcelona, with a release in the following month. The report suggests that it will be priced around $920, which puts it in the same category as the Galaxy Note 8.
