Nokia 8 Sirocco announced!

Nokia 8 Sirocco MWC 2018

Nokia 8 Sirocco

The Mobile World Congress is officially over, and we saw many new great devices. Nokia was one of the companies to showcase their new smartphones there. We already saw the Nokia 1, the company’s cheapest smartphone with Android Go. Today, we’re taking a look at their most premium offering. Meet the Nokia 8 Sirocco – the star of MWC 2018!

Design

HMD took special care for the design of the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The glass and steel body give the device a premium feel in the hand. The slightly curved edges make the smartphone look gorgeous. On the front, you will find the 5.5” Quad HD pOLED display. The color reproduction of the panel is nice, and the brightness is excellent. The only downside is that it is still placed in the 16:9 aspect ratio, which makes it a bit boxier compared to other flagships. Nevertheless, it is still a stunning display to look at. Rotating to the back, you will find the dual camera setup in the middle, with the fingerprint sensor right under it. The Nokia logo sits proudly in the middle. The device is also IP67 water resistant, so you won’t have to worry if it gets splashed.

Features

Starting with the performance, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is a powerhouse. The only downside is in the processor, since it uses the Snapdragon 835. This was featured in flagships last year, and we already have devices with the newer Snapdragon 845. Nevertheless, it’s not a big loss comparing them both. Accompanying the chipset, you’re getting 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This will assure even the most notorious multitaskers and media junkies. Finishing the hardware is the battery, which is capped at 3260mAh. It should be more than enough to last you through a full day of use.

The camera department is where HMD is improving the most, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco is not an exception. The company is bringing back old collaborations, with Zeiss being one of them. The device features a dual camera setup on the back, developed by Zeiss. The first is a regular 12MP lens with f/1.7, while the second is a 12MP f/2.6 that can shoot in 2x optical zoom. From this partnership, we can see that Nokia is serious about optical quality at multiple zoom ranges. The pictures coming out of it are excellent, with great dynamic range and color saturation. The front 5MP camera should be more than enough for all of your selfies.

Finishing with the software, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is featuring a stock version of Android Oreo. HMD announced that all future devices will be included in the Android One program, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco is among the first. That means always stock Android and regular security and version upgrades. Other companies should take Nokia’s example and do it themselves.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available for purchase around April/May. It will be priced at 749 euros.
