The Taiwanese company has been trying hard to get back to its glory days, and they did many things. Some of their first tries were unsuccessful, while the latest were somewhat OK. Still, people are hard to win them back, and you’re going to have a hard time doing that to regain their trust. The HTC U12 Plus might be the smartphone that does that, and today we have some rumors about it. Let’s take a look at them!
Design
Evan Blass, or famously known as @evleaks, is one of the most famous leaker of details and images about upcoming devices. He recently showcased the image for the HTC U12 Plus, and from it, we can see a lot about the upcoming device. Namely, HTC will push the bezels to their limits, giving you a bigger display to look at. The display should be around 6 inches, with WQHD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the back, we can notice a dual camera setup, with the fingerprint sensor right under it. We cannot see clearly, but judging from their previous devices, it should be made from glass on the back, which is a nice, premium material.
Features
Going inside the HTC U12 Plus, we can see that it is going to aim high on the performance sheet. Starting with the processor, the device will feature the Snapdragon 845 processor. Alongside it, the device will also feature 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. That should satisfy even the most notorious multitaskers on this planet. Finishing the performance with the battery, the U12 Plus should feature a 3420mAh one. That should last you through a full day of use, but we’ll have to wait and see when it gets released.
Moving on to the cameras, the HTC U12 Plus will for sure feature a dual camera setup on the back and on the front. Rumors suggest that the rear setup will be a 16MP + 12MP combo, with an 8 + 8MP combo on the front. Judging from their recent devices, we can expect for both the rear and front to produce excellent photos. The second camera on the rear should be a telephoto one for better zoom, while the one on the front for the famous bokeh effect. Again, we would have to wait and test them out thoroughly when the device gets released.
Finishing with the software, the HTC U12 Plus should feature Android Oreo with HTC’s own skin on top of it. The skin is not heavily modified, and it is close to stock, with some minimal features added. It is also highly customizable, and you can download different themes from the built-in theme store. We’re also expecting the device to feature SenseUI, the squeezing sensor that can be found on the previous U11 and the Pixel 2. It is not a groundbreaking feature, but it is still nice to be had.
Pricing and availability
The HTC U12 Plus should be released in May, as the rumors suggest. Unfortunately, there are no details about the pricing, but we expect it to be priced around $900.
