Recently, Huawei was struck pretty bad in the United States. The biggest telecom companies there bailed out in the last minute to include Huawei’s smartphones in their lineup. Luckily, this is only happening there, as Huawei is doing pretty good in every other country. You’re getting pretty good devices with excellent hardware for a moderate price. And now, the company announced their latest flagship lineup – the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Let’s see what these devices can offer!
Design
From the first look, one thing is for sure – these devices are gorgeous. The colors are especially the aspect that make the devices stand out. Especially the Twilight option that can be found only on the P20 Pro. The glass design really makes these colors shine, justifying the premium look and feel in the hand. The only thing that might be bothering you is the notch with a medium form factor. Personally, I don’t like it, but you can hide it with an implemented software switch. The Huawei P20 sports a 5.8” Full HD+ display, while the P20 Pro bumps that up to 6.1”. Both have 18:9 aspect ratio and they’re not that difficult to operate with one hand. The fingerprint sensor is placed right on the bottom bezel. On the back, you will find the camera setup on the top corner.
Features
Performance wise, you’re getting the best value for your money. Starting with the chipset, both devices carry the Kirin 970 – Huawei’s own and best processor. It will handle any task you throw at it. Going on to the memory, the regular P20 gets 4GB of RAM, while the P20 Pro bumps it up to 6GB of RAM. Both devices also get 128GB of internal storage, which should be more than enough for all of your files. The Huawei P20 has a 3400mAh battery, while the P20 Pro gets a 4000mAh one. Also, the Pro version has IP67 water and dust resistance, while the regular P20 has only IP53.
The camera department is the main selling point of these devices, especially for the P20 Pro. This is the first smartphone to feature three cameras on the back – one telephoto, one wide, and the last one monochrome. They have 8MP, 40MP and 20MP respectively, which is incredible – especially for the regular wide sensor. With this, you should be getting pretty good pictures, and you’re also getting the AI ability to enhance them according to the conditions. The regular Huawei P20 also sports these AI features, but you’re getting a common combination – 12MP wide + 20MP monochrome. Both devices take excellent pictures with great color saturation and dynamic range. On the front, both devices sport a 24MP sensor that is more than enough for all of your selfies.
The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro feature Android Oreo, with Huawei’s EMUI skin on top of it. The skin is packing many features that are useful, but it can feel a bit saturated on first look. Nevertheless, since it’s Android, you can easily customize it for your own taste.
Pricing and availability
Both the Huawei P20 and the P20 Pro will be available for purchase in April. The regular P20 will be priced at around 680 Euros and the P20 Pro at around 900 Euros.
