HMD Global did an incredible job with the Nokia brand. They restored it back to their previous glory that people used to know and love. And, they’re offering a big range of devices for every different budget. This year, the second generation of most of those devices were released, such as the Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1. Now, two of those devices are getting the Plus treatment – the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 6.1. If you’re interested in the Nokia 6.1 Plus, you can check it out here. In the meanwhile, read on to see all the juicy details about the Nokia 5.1 Plus!
Design
Starting with the design, this is one of the primary upgrades compared to the regular Nokia 5.1. HMD tried to modernize the look like most of the smartphones that released this year. And you can see that when you first look it from the front – it has a notch. It’s up to you to decide if it’s looking good or not. Speaking of the screen, the 5.1 Plus comes with a 5.86” LCD display. It has 1520 x 720 resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display is decent, with great brightness and accurate color saturation. The taller screen means for smaller side bezels, with the bottom chin being the most visible. Rotating to the back, you will find the camera setup in the middle, with the fingerprint sensor right under it. The back is glass, with the body being made from aluminum.
Features
Performance wise, the Nokia 5.1 Plus offers decent internals considering the starting price. At the very heart of the device, lies the Helio P60 processor from Mediatek. The 2.0GHz octa-core processor should handle most tasks without any issues. Furthermore, the device comes in two different memory versions. One is with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the second bumps that up to 4/64GB respectively. Both options are decent, though if you’re a heavy multitasker, you should opt in for the 4GB one. Finishing the internals, the 5.1 Plus comes with a 3060mAh battery. It will easily last you through a full day of use, and Quick charge is available if you need a fast top up.
Moving on to the cameras, the device comes with a dual camera setup on the back and a single shooter on the front. Starting with the back, the devices packs a main 13MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary 5MP shooter. The second camera is more used as a depth sensor, or famously known as the portrait mode shooter. Pictures are coming out decent, with good dynamic range and higher color saturation. On the front, the 8MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture should be decent for the casual selfie.
Software wise, you already know the deal. All new Nokia devices are part of the Android One family. That means up to two years of guaranteed feature updates and up to three years of security updates. Furthermore, they’re running on stock Android Oreo 8.1. You won’t find any added features or bloatware. So, for Android purists, a Nokia phone is definitely your dream device.
