Xiaomi is doing it’s best to always be in the spotlight, and that’s by constantly releasing new products. We’ve seen a lot of new devices recently, with the Pocophone F1 being the most notable. It’s a smartphone with flagship internals for around 300 euros. That’s one of the best values for your hard-earned money! And like I said, they have no plans in stopping. Today, we’re taking a look at their newest smartphone in the Redmi family. Meet the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro!
Design
Starting with the design, if you have owned a previous Redmi device, you’ll notice the same trend here. Aluminum back, rounded edges, mat colors and overall good feel in the hand. On the front, you will the find the 5.84” IPS LCD display. It has 432 pixels per inch and 19:9 aspect ratio. Furthermore, it’s one of the first Redmi devices to feature a notch, and luckily, it’s not a big one. For all of you that don’t like it, you can hide it inside the software. The side bezels are thin, though the bottom chin is a bit large. Rotating to the back, you will find the camera setup in the top corner, with the fingerprint sensor in the middle. It comes in many different color options: black, blue, gold, rose gold and red.
Features
On the inside, you’re getting a decent midrange deal. Starting with the chipset, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro comes with the Snapdragon 625 processor. The 2.0GHz octa-core processor will handle most tasks without any problem. Furthermore, the device comes in two different memory options – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and the other with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both options should be fine, but if you’re a heavy multitasker, I’d recommend the 4/64GB version. Finally, the 4000mAh battery is more than enough to last you up to two days, depending on your use.
Switching over to the camera setup, you’re getting two cameras on the back, and a single one on the front. Starting with the back, the device features a primary 12MP shooter and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. Both lenses have f/2.2 aperture and are taking excellent photos. Pictures are coming good, a bit on the soft side, and have decent dynamic range and color saturation. However, that is only true for good lightning conditions – fall a bit into the dark, and you’ll start seeing the camera’s weakest points. The same applies for the front 20MP shooter, but you can expect decent selfies.
Finishing with the software, the Redmi 6 Pro comes with MIUI 9.6, based on Android Oreo 8.1. The overall experience is heavily altered compared to stock Android, but it packs a lot of useful features. If you’re a first-time MIUI user, you’ll have a hard learning curve, but its well worth it at the end.
Pricing and availability
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is available only in Asian markets. International users get the Mi A2 Lite – the same device, with stock Android instead of MIUI. The Redmi 6 Pro is starting at around $132.
