Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 announced!
We all know that Xiaomi offers some of the best devices for the price. The Chinese manufacturer is well known for all of their smartphones. Namely, they offer great hardware and excellent looks – for a low price. And with the recent expansion in Europe, their sales are going upwards only. Recently, we took a look at the Pocophone F1 – the “flagship killer”. Right now, it’s the cheapest smartphone that offers the Snapdragon 845 processor. And now, they announced their newest, premium offering. Meet the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 – the latest take on the company’s all screen smartphone! Let’s take a closer look at it!
Design
Starting with the main feature of this device – the design. The Mix series has been known for pushing the boundaries of how much more screen can we get in this form factor. The notch does enable that, but Xiaomi tired to achieve it without including it – at least in the Mix series. Now, the third generation offers a completely new take that takes inspiration from the past. Yes, the phone uses a slider to house the full screen upfront and hide the front cameras behind. It moves using magnets, discarding the need of moving mechanical parts. With this, the display achieves 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. It’s an impressive feat, and it surely feels good to hear that snap when you’re sliding the device again.
As for the display, Xiaomi packed in a 6.39” AMOLED panel with 1080 x 2340 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The panel is vivid and bright, while the bezels are extremely slim. On the back, you have the camera setup in the top corner, with the fingerprint sensor in the middle. The back is made from ceramic, while the body is made from aluminum. It will come in four color options: Blue, Black, Green and the special Forbidden City Blue.
Features
Going inside, you will find the standard hardware of a flagship smartphone in 2018. However, there are some small surprises. Starting with the chipset, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 comes with the Snapdragon 845 processor. Accompanied by the Adreno 630 GPU, both should handle any tasks you throw at them. The interesting part is in the memory. The special Forbidden City version packs in 10 GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. For the others, you can choose between 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of internal storage. Finally, the Mix 3 comes with a 3200mAh battery. Due to the new sliding mechanism, it had to be reduced. However, it should easily last you through a day, and it can be topped up quickly.
For the cameras, you have a dual setup on both the rear and the front. Starting with the back, you have two 12MP sensors – one as a regular wide one and the second as telephoto. They take excellent pictures, with great dynamic range and color saturation. On the front, you have a primary 24MP shooter and a secondary 2MP depth sensor. For all of your selfies or video calls, it should be more than enough. Speaking of video, the cameras can shoot up to 2160p at 30 or 60fps. There is also a slow mode available at 1080p with 960fps.
Finally, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 ships with MIUI 10, based on Android Pie 9.0. It packs in a lot of features, so if you’re coming from a previous Xiaomi device, you’ll be at home here.
Pricing and availability
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will be available in China first on the 1st of November, with more markets to follow up. Prices start at around $475 for the lowest 6/128GB version and go all the way up to $720 for the special 10/512GB version.
