Looks like Google is stepping into the eBook market to take some of the eBook glory away from the likes of Amazon and other eBook sellers, and Google is preparing to launch an online digital bookstore called Google Editions.

According to an article over on the Boy Genius Report by Andrew Munchbach, Google product director Scott Dougall spoke to the WSJ saying the new store “is set to debut in the U.S. by the end of the year and internationally in the first quarter of next year.”

According to the WSJ…“Users will be able to buy books directly from Google or from multiple online retailers–including independent bookstores–and add them to an online library tied to a Google account. They will be able to access their Google accounts on most devices with a Web browser, including personal computers, smartphones and tablets.”

Apparently Google Editions will also have a “revenue sharing model” for 3rd parties, and blogs and websites that talk on the subject of ebooks will be able to link their readers to Google Editions so they can purchase the ebook and get a cut from Google for the sale.

Sounds reasonable, and no doubt the millions of aspiring authors out there will quickly want to jump aboard to offer their ebooks through Google Editions; maybe I will have check it out once it goes live to see if it is viable to do so, I also wonder if Google will push out a Google Editions mobile app for Android as well.
