Nokia 3109 Classic: Not Our Cup of Tea
Sitting here thinking about the Nokia 3109 Classic makes us think hard, the reason for this is because the Nokia 3109 Classic is well balanced in one sense, but then in another is missing a few things that should not be missing. The things that are missing which are also shown below and of which is a major flaw is there is NO camera (oops).
But then on the other hand this is a very good phone for those who do not care about a camera, the Nokia 3109 is good for office use as well because it features email with attachments plus synchronizes calendars and to-do lists with personal computers through its USB connection. A good phone for those, who don’t require a camera, 3G is only approximately 1.5 times faster than EDGE, but the missing of WLAN is really not the best thing.
The Nokia 3109 is really a good phone, I don,t want a phone with camera but I want the phone to be able to use memor card and store music. The nokia e60 is therer but it is epensive so for us that have no money, the nokia 3109 i our Nokia e60
“major flaw is there is NO camera (oops).”
I think your missing the point. This is a good phone for corporate users where camera phones are not allowed. Such as banks, airports etc. A lot of major businesses forbid cameras.
I have a 3109c and as a phone is is great. Signal quality is good – I get a signal where my 6230 struggled.
Only problem is I have bought a microSD card but can’t get the phone to see it – it says it needs to be formatted but there is no option on the menus to format the card! I spoke with vodafone and nokia to no avail…….
No camera is a benefit to those of us who for business reasons can’t have a camera phone. It’s nearly impossible to get a mobi that only does voice, sms and email! if I want to take photos I’ll use a camera…
The nokia 3109 is fantastic, but the ringtone volume (though set to max) is hardly heard when it is in my purse. I wish there is a way to download a stronger ringtone. If someone knows, then please tell me. My email is epsa99@yahoo.com
If you want camera in your phone, then go to 3110c. This phone is great, and i think i will buy it soon. i have a digital camera (7.1MPx) and i do not need any camera-phone.
I’ve had two of these phones – the original would sometimes seem to turn up the mic sensitivity too much and all sounds around me would feedback and become distorted. I got it swapped out for a new one and the same thing is now happening with the new one. About to get a 3rd replacement as its the only one my company will allow (due to the no camera policy – but bluetooth is required for handsfree carkits). Hope I’ve been unlucky enough to get to bad handsets and the 3rd one will be fine.
I like this phone. Its simple no thrils… its a phone! Agree with Epsa99 the ringtones could be a little louder. One major plus for me is its light a good thing as i travel loads.
This is a great phone!
I’m not allowed to have a camera phone, since I work at an international airport.
I don’t need a 3G connection, got a 24MB dsl at home.
Basically, it is a very nice phone and it never loses signal.
Seems a decent phone, but Like Howard Page above, I cannot get it to format a memory card.
I’ve tried a San Disk 4Gb card.
🙁
Me too, unable to get my card formatted so the phone would use it 🙁
Same thing, 4GB San Disk MicroSD, formatted it on Windows XP, no go, it keeps telling me this card is not formatted…
Anybody knows what happens here ?
The phone will accept only cards up to 2 Gigs. Read the specs in advance. 🙂
Before buying the SD card, I read the manual in three languages: there is no indication on the maximum size of the SD card. Now, that I already know, I found the spec on the Nokia web site.

I want this phone,it’s well made typically easy to use like all nokia’s and has buttons made for male fingers, and why are people so obsessed with camera’s in phones, this is for people who work where camera’s are not permitted like courts or the home office, besides if I want a camera I’ll buy one,and the sensors in mobile phones are small and poor quality as is the optics,I’ll stick with my SLR thanks and if I want something portable I’ll buy a compact,I wish phones in Britain were designed for adults like they are in other countries not just teenagers who want loads of useless gadgets,,I want nokia, and big buttons,so I’ll buy this.
I have had this phone for 3 years now and it’s great, what is it with site and others who insist on a camera on a cheap phone,I am sure those who do will buy a more expensive phone or a proper camera for that matter, but for the rest of us we just want a solid reliable phone with a good battery life and this phone is it and I have really bashed mine and it goes on and on.
sound on this phone is rubish. provided by my employer and everyone says I am continually breaking up or distorting. this is the secondone I have had and they are both the same. Also I use it a lot on the move and the Automated voicetags are rubbish. How on earth do you cancel them. why could we not just stick to the old way of attaching your own voice as a voicetag?HELP
I just bought an 8 gig memory card which cost as much as the phone but it wont format it as indicated by “The preacher” above. I must admit that I still cant find this limitation in the specs I see,I guess ill keep the mem card just in case
A superb phone 3109c. I am surprised after going through the comments of other people. If you need camera then better to get 3110c or better. But with respect to price, it is best phone having good memory, infrared, bluetooth and so many other features.
I’m recieving this phone tommorow, I ordered it because of its simplicity, and I’m not using it for business or anything like that.
I was just browsing for phones, and thought to myself – Do I really need this that and the other on my phone? No I don’t, I want something I can ring and text with, that’s it!
And the reviewer who said it hasn’t got a camera on it (OH GOD NO! WILL THE WORLD STOP TURNING?) well as someone else said – you are missing the point. Not everyone is a fashion junkie when it comes to phones, I used to be, but now I think it’s a bit sad.
The micro-SD is probably not seen above 2gb, because all larger cards (4-8-16gb) and XP+ software format ‘memory cards’ with NTFS file system, the phone must only be taking FAT or FAT32.
I had this problem with my compact camera, having bought a larger 4gb card found it didn’t work, until I discovered it had been pre-formatted as NTFS and just formatted 4gb card to FAT with a download programme from web.
the 3109 WAS my company phone until the screen cracked in the first week (it wasnt dropped it was in my pocket) so its easy to break with lots of replacment screens on ebay.
dull as dishwater to look at and use
its poor quality tat
I rate this phone very highly, as a agricultural sales rep going on farm its been droppped on concrete, had muddy hands use the keypad, got rather wet and been generally abused, had it 2 years now and its fine.
It does what it says on the tin – its a Phone if thats all you need then fine, if not there are hundreds of others which take pictures, allow you to surf the net to your hearts content and wipe your arse. Its a basic phone that works.
