Notion Ink Adam Tablet PC Shipping: You Ordered One?

Apparently there was some concerns over pre-order status with the Notion Ink Adam tablet as Huliq News was worried about some of the ordering process and saying that “pre-orders of the device were in limbo.”

However Huliq seems to have lost those concerns although the company has yet to announce any pricing or even that the Notion Ink Adam tablet had gained FCC approval, but apparently CEO Rohan Sharvan delivered some calcification on the subject in a recent blog post which basically says the firm is waiting to reopen pre-orders due to e-commerce and supply chain issues.

Sharavn did however confirm that the Notion Ink Adam tablet has now cleared the FCC meaning the device can now go on sale in the US of A.

Furthermore according to an article over on Engadget, the Notion Ink Adam tablet has now begun shipping from India and thus American customers who pre-ordered the device should see delivery by the end of January.

So what we’d love to know is if any of our readers have ordered the Notion Ink Adam tablet, and if so what made you decide to purchase this tablet over another?

We have a little promo video for your viewing pleasure below on the Notion Ink Adam table, so feel fre to jump on down and check it out…enjoy.

I am a pre-order-er… Mine is a 3G Pixel Qi. I ordered this device because it has three outstanding things going for it: ____1) Notion Ink has developed this product in a new way, involving the future user and developer community in the process. Go to notionink.wordpress.com. You'll see the product, the company and its young CEO evolving. You won't see that same openness and user-based discussions with any of the big boys.____2) The device is NOT an iPad wannabe. It is not "following the pack," but forging new frontiers & ideas. The ADAM is true to itself only. Most of the other tablets seem to vaguely resemble the iPad.____3) The specs on this device, as a whole, are better than anything you'll find out there. OK, it's not the highest screen res, but it allows users to view the screen in direct sunlight approximating e-ink at 30fps. OK, it has a 3.2 megapixel camera compared to one of Xoom's to cameras–but it is not rigidly placed on the front and back, but is designed to swivel 185 degrees, allowing users a great deal more flexibility in its use. The sheer volume and variety of I/O ports on this device are unparalleled.

There is a slight error in your report, the Notion Ink Adam is being shipped from the factory in China where it's manufactured. Pricing was also announced back in December – there's no reason to believe the pricing will change although it's been hinted that there might be larger storage options in the future (- the standard model is 8GB).

I was one of the first to order an Adam with Pixel Qi display and Wifi+3G.

If you spend some time at notionink.wordpress.com and notionink.com you will quickly learn enough about the Adam to see why so many people have decided on the Adam over other tablets. Also be sure to check out Joanna Stern's (from engadget.com) video review of the Adam at CES. You can find it here http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/notion-ink-ada

IMO, the only other tablet coming to market that comes close in comparison to the Adam is the Motorola Xoom. It is supposed to be released in February but I am not counting on it making it to market by then since there is still so much work to do on Honeycomb (Android 3.0). And if you take time to learn about the advantages of Honeycomb and then compare Adam's Eden UI to it, you will see that Adam already has most of the features that Honeycomb will offer. And Notion Ink is the only manufacturer that can claim that as they were the only one that recognized the shortcoming of stock Android 2.2/2.3 on tablets and modified it and created a custom UI to address all the issues. They did not rush to market and just slap Android 2.2/2.3 on their tablet like other manufacturers. On top of that, It won't take long for Notion Ink to put Honeycomb on the Adam though an update once it is available. Then they will have all that Xoom has plus the added benefits of Eden UI, etc.

There are so many factors for me that went into my decision. I researched for over a year before deciding. I believe the Adam tablet is the best, but besides that it is also the best priced for a tablet with similar features. I only paid $549 for the fully loaded model. The model with an LCD screen and Wifi is only $375. With the Xoom being tied to Verizon, I bet it will be very expensive (look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab for example) and they will force purchasers into expensive long term wireless contracts too, or they will have to pay an even higher premium to get one without a contract. The Xoom will be very successful. It will be a good tablet. And it will sell a lot because it is Motorola. But anyone considering the Xoom or another tablet owes it to themselves to research the Adam before deciding.

And if you want to see hands on videos with the Adam in the next few days, be sure to check out notioninkfan.com.

I ordered it and if you did any research for this article you would know that there was 3 different priced models, and they sold out quick. They are shipping now and once the first batch is delivered, they are going to put more up on the site again for sale.
They are made in China, designed in India btw. Similar to pretty much most all good tech companies.
Reason I bought it, Eden GUI, Pricing, hardware spec and avoid apple.

I live in Canada and should get it next week. It's features look amazing and it does pretty much everything a laptop does. Plus some more. My iPad suddenly looks so boring and retarded!
