Apple In Pilfering Mood, Steals iCloud Name For iOS 5

Obviously not satisfied at stealing notifications from Android, BlackBerry Messenger from RIM, and WiFi Sync from an iOS developer for Apple’s new iOS 5, it appears that Apple is also not against stealing a name, the name iCloud, but iCloud Communications isn’t going to take it laying down.

According to the guys over at Slash Gear by way of MacRumors, The Next Web is reporting that iCloud Communications is taking legal action against Apple for alleged trademark infringement of the name iCloud and offering a similar service.

The Arizona based firm offers VoIP, PBX, SIP and conferencing services and the suit states the following…” The goods and services with which Apple intends to use the “iCloud” mark are identical to or closely related to the goods and services that have been offered by iCloud Communications under the iCloud Marks since its formation in 2005. However, due to the worldwide media coverage given to and generated by Apple’s announcement of its “iCloud” services and the ensuing saturation advertising campaign pursued by Apple, the media and the general public have quickly come to associate the mark “iCloud” with Apple, rather than iCloud Communications.”

Sop basically iCloud Communications wants an injunction granted that will halt Apple from using the iCloud moniker along with the destruction of all promotional materials and recompense for damage and loss of profits.

So there you go, no doubt this will take forever to get anything done and in the end Apple will undoubtedly wrangle a way round so they can use the iCloud name. The full suit can be read below if you are into all the legal jargon.
