Viber App for Android Released: Offers Free Calls and Texts
For those that have the Android platform as their preferred smartphone operating system that enjoy texting and calling for free, you just might like to learn that the Viber app for Android has finally been made available on the Android Market following the success of the iPhone version of the application.
The Viber Android app has been in beta since back in May but has now officially launched on the Android Market that offers free calling and free texting to other users who use a Viber app and apparently delivers better call quality than a regular call.
So here’s a few statistics about Viber users, after 7-months Viber can now lay claim to 20 million registered users with 12 million active users in the last 30-days, and apparently Viber users talk 1 billion minutes every quarter and for free.
The CEO of Viber, Talmon Marco says, “We have been looking forward to launching our Android app, especially after having received a staggering number of requests from Android users asking us to bring Viber to the Android market. Our latest user numbers are the best indicator of how much our users love to talk and send messages for free with Viber.”
Apparently, those 12 million active Viber users currently talk on average 11 million minutes per day with an average call length of 6 minutes.
The Viber app for Android features pop up text message notifications enabling the user to respond without the need to open the Viber app, tighter integration with Android, a full call screen whenever a Viber call is received, and a default dialler that enables the use of the Viber dialler for all calls if you wish.
Apparently the Viber app is free of all ads, doesn’t require any in-app purchases, the ability to talk and text as much as you wish you only require an Internet connection either 3G or WiFi, there are no international charges so you can text or call a friend no matter where they are in the world, and phone number identification meaning you done require a username or password.
We also have for your viewing consideration below a promo video of Viber for Android that last a minute so you can check that out before shooting off to the Android Market to grab the Viber app, which by the way is a free download but is best suited for handsets running Android 2.0 or above.

We aren’t aware of any special problem with Desire S on “3” network.
Please try rebooting your device and searching for Viber again. when you search for “Viber”, did you make sure you scrolled all the way down?

Viber only supports iPhone 3G and above 🙁
This is probably the cause to your problem.

If you send pictures on viber are they completely private and no body has acces to them wat soever ? Please get back to me as soon as you can thanks 🙂
Yes,
Viber messages (including photos) are not even saved on our servers because we care about user privacy, so you can use Viber freely and without any worries 🙂
How does viber make money?
Currently, Viber’s focus is on adding platforms, features and integrating with more platforms, as well as improving overall system performance. Â At the same time, we are working on additional premium services that will generate revenue once they become available. The basic Viber service – Viber to Viber phone calls and text messages – will ALWAYS be free.
unfortunately there is a bug for android and in the past week or less, since the last update calls are difficult to make.
What exactly do you mean by “difficult to make”? Please elaborate.
I tried Viver on my HTC Vivid and it owrks beautifully. Thanks for your effort. I have a question about the location information. When I send a message, it includes my location information. But when I receive message from my girlfriend who uses the same model phone, no location information is included. Do you know how to activate/deactivate the location information? thanks.
Did you make sure both of you have the latest version of Viber installed?
If both have the latest version, location service should work just fine on both ends.
Oh, I know now. I just need to activate the location icon on the right.
Ok, great to hear it works 🙂

Does viber work on Samsung Galaxy Young ? I need an answer ASAP please.
Have UK mobile (unlocked) HTC Desire. Couple of questions as I am temporarily moving to Tenerife for 3 months and want to stay in contact without racking up extortionate call costs.
If I use 3 g in tenerife than I assume I will rack up data charges as the hand set will not be in the UK. Â Do I need to swap to a local sim card and tell my partner and others of new number or is there a way I can use UK sim card to keep my number of 20 years whilst in Tenerife just to use Viber whilst connected to wifi?
And advice appreciated. Â BTW when I call Tmobile they just recommend I use a local sim.Â
Hi,
Note that even if you switch to a local SIM (with which you use the *LOCAL* 3G network) unless you manually uninstall and reinstall Viber, your Viber number will remain the British number with which you originally registered.
So there shouldn’t be any problem. Use the local SIM to connect to the internet via the local 3G network (without Roaming), and try it out 🙂
Thank you Viber. Â Please excuse my ignorance. Â I haven’t yet installed the Viber software so I am a little in the dark here. Â Is the Viber number a totally unrelated number to my handset sim card number and secondly, if it is, does it have a different prefix when you relocate from one country to another?
Any advice is appreciated.

Or am I missing the point completely as it is internet telephony so country codes are irrelevant?Â
Your Viber number is the number with with you originally registered, but it is then associated with the handset itself. For example, if you registered with your British SIM, your Viber number will be your British number. Later, if you switch to your Spanis SIM, it will not change your Viber number, that will remain the British one.
About roaming and prefixes – if the Viber number that is associated with your device is currently the British one, then it will behave as though “you are in Britain”, meaning you can dial British numbers locally, and numbers from any other countries need to be dialed internationally.
If you want to prevent this confusion, you may simply save/dial all numbers internationally when you are using Viber 🙂
